About Brainpool AI

Brainpool AI (Brainpool Ltd) was founded in 2017 out of University College London and is based in Mayfair, London, with a second office in Vancouver. It is led by co-founders Dr. Peter Bebbington, CEO, and Kasia Borowska, CPO. The about page names five staff and an advisory board of eight, Clutch gives 10-49, and the site's headline figure of 500+ AI and ML experts in 23 countries describes a freelance network that staffs projects. It sells AI strategy, a proof-of-concept factory, consultancy and due diligence, and increasingly its own model-agnostic platform, Brainpool Cortex.

Its strongest published work is optimization and computer vision: DAISY for Staircraft Group, which designed 12% of floors in the UK residential timber housing market within two years, and a pet portrait pipeline for Crown & Paw with a stated $365,000 a year in savings. About a third of its 18 case studies are LLM projects, all anonymized, such as construction quotations and a parking appeal bot. Clutch shows 4.9 from 4 reviews, mostly consulting and training engagements under $10,000, and Google 4.8 from 5.

The outside record is thin and dated: the newest Clutch review is from December 2024 and the newest Google review is about four years old, with one concerning the firm's crowdfunding. No agent case study is published. It publishes no prices, and its Clutch minimum of $25,000 sits above its most common reviewed project size. The footer links a Cyber Essentials certificate; there is no ISO 27001, SOC 2 or vendor partner tier.

Our verdict

Brainpool AI suits a company that wants an AI strategy or a machine learning proof of concept, in forecasting, optimization or computer vision, from PhD-level specialists.

The case for it is two production results with figures: DAISY designed 12% of floors in the UK residential timber housing market within two years, and the Crown & Paw pipeline saves a stated $365,000 a year. It has worked for HSBC and Fujitsu, and its four Clutch reviews average 4.9.

The caution is that the record is thin, old and mostly outside generative AI. Its LLM projects are anonymized and mostly stop at strategy or proof of concept, there is no agent case study, and the newest outside review is from December 2024. Delivery runs through a freelance network around a small core team, so ask who will build your project.

A buyer who wants a production LLM agent or automation should look elsewhere, and a buyer who wants independent advice should ask whether the engagement will end in a Cortex deployment.

Pros

  • DAISY for Staircraft Group designed 12% of floors in the UK residential timber housing market within two years
  • Crown & Paw pet portrait pipeline saves 20 minutes per design and a stated $365,000 a year in contractor costs
  • 18 published case studies, with HSBC, Fujitsu and Seagate among the named clients
  • Founded in 2017 out of University College London, with offices in London and Vancouver

Cons

  • Thin and dated outside record: 4 Clutch reviews, the newest from December 2024, and 5 Google reviews, the newest about four years old.
  • No agent case study is published, and most LLM projects stop at strategy or proof of concept; its results with figures are optimization and computer vision.
  • Delivery draws on a freelance network around a five-person named core team, so who builds the project varies.
  • Publishes no prices; Clutch shows $150-$199 an hour, at the top of the UK range.
  • The firm is moving toward selling its own platform, Brainpool Cortex, so a new engagement may be a platform deployment.
